Lamborghini Miura SV (1966-1973)

Even before the presentation of the model at the Turin Motor Show in 1965, began taking orders for the new sports car. At the stand of the young company has only a Lamborghini chassis - steel frame with pre-drilled holes in order of decreased weight of the structure. Before the rear axle laterally placed 12-cylinder V-engine. Beneath it was a gearbox placed in the sump. For lubrication of both these components serve the same oil.

For companies Ferruccio Lamborghini was only the second car after the 350 GT model. Presented in Turin received the designation P400 chassis from "posteriore 4 liter" (posteriore meant as much as a rear-engine location, and a 4 liter engine capacity).

The body of the new car was designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone's. Silhouette was similar to the Ford GT40, but characterized delikatniejszymi lines. The finished car was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 1966. In addition to the earlier mark (P400), named Miura car from the famous Spanish family of breeding bulls for fighting in the arena. No wonder - lamborghini logo is a bull.

Two months after the presentation of Ferruccio Lamborghini went to the Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1. He went there, the new Miura. Car parked on the Place du Casino de Paris in front of the hotel. When zgormadził a large crowd of observers, started the engine. It made a big impression on them.

Miury serial production started in 1967. The first models driven by 3.9-liter V12 engine with a capacity of 350 hp. Top speed 275 km / h. The design of the vehicle based on a spatial frame of steel tubes, rear and front body is made of aluminum, and the roof and doors made of steel. There was not a mask, and the tailgate. The entire front and rear fenders with raised together. This made the car even more attractive.

However, the attractive sports car had its disadvantages. The interior strongly heat up the engine running. Miury were very vulnerable to fire in case of accident. The fuel tank is mounted in front of the car. There also was a place for small luggage, the rear was located only a small storage compartment.

Later appeared enhanced version of P400S reaching 370 HP, then shown at the Salon in Turin in 1971 even stronger P400 SV, which had a maximum power output of 385 bhp and reached a speed of 290 km / h.

In 1970 he built a special Miura iota, which was to be the basis for the subsequent construction of the Lamborghini models. Was sold after intensive tests conducted by the test driver Bob Wallace. Unfortunately, the only vehicle in April 1971, had an accident and completely burned down on the highway near Brescia. Customers who have heard of Jocie, they began to order such a car for himself. It was established five (not exactly mimic the prototype) vehicles, which bore the designation of the Miura SV/J

Previously, Bertone created a copy of the open version - Miura Spyder roadster. This car was presented to several automobile showrooms. Finally, was purchased by International Lead Zinc Research Organization, which used the vehicle for the presentation of the application of zinc in the construction of cars.

Last Miura left the factory in Santa Agata in 1973. A total of 763 vehicles. It's very much like a car whose price in the 60s and 70 reached $ 20,000.

Alfa Romeo Spider (1969-1983)

In the early 60s Alfa Romeo has completed production of the popular model - Giulietta Spider. Then the Italian company began looking for his successor. On the basis of Giulietta, a new sports car.

After the first car, still unnamed, is shown at the car showroom in Geneva in March 1966. After the contest announced by the company received the name Duetto. Car is equipped with an engine capacity of 1570 cc and 110 hp. He had a 5-speed gearbox, disc brakes and independent front wheel suspension. Its original price in Italy was 2 195 000 lire. It was also the last vehicle, who personally designed the famous Italian stylist Battista Pinin Farina.

Two months after the Geneva launch of Duetto loaded on board a transatlantic liner Raffaello, to present it in the U.S.. There, a new vehicle quickly gained immense popularity. This happened thanks to the movie "The Graduate." Italian Duetto drove the main character, played by Dustin Hoffman. At the North American market were also used other names for this car, the Graduate, the title of the film. Overall, the end of 1967, produced 6,325 of these cars.

This season also appeared successor to Duetto - Spider 1750 Veloce. It was almost identical, only increased the engine capacity to 1779 cc. This power unit delivered 114 hp, which guaranteed to get maximum speed near 190 km / h. Silhouette cars still remained characteristically rounded front and rear. In Italy it was called "osso di seppia". It took the term from the oval shape of the inner shells of cuttlefish. Modifications related to the suspension, brakes and electrics of the car. More noticeable was the mirror of the front left moved the door.

The new vehicle, like its predecessor, well sell in the U.S.. However, due to more stringent U.S. standards for air pollutants at the local car market with the costs Spica mechanical fuel injection. European had two carburetors Weber suffice.

In 1969, for young customers who seek low-cost, open car, the Alfa Romeo produced Spider 1300 Junior . He had the engine capacity of 1290 cc and 88 HP. Car accelerated to 168 km / h.

The year 1969 brought the first major changes in the appearance of Spider. At the Turin Motor Show car is presented in which the rear part of the body was rounded, and sharply truncated. This model is called "coda tronca", or cut off the tail. This modification reduced the vehicle to 4.12 m (4.25 m previously). This change was to improve the aerodynamic efficiency according to research carried out by a German scholar, Professor. Kamma.

New Spiders 1300 Junior and 1750 Veloce was also more inclined windscreen and small side located right behind her. Also modified bumpers, grill, door handles and a few other small items.

Another model was the 2000 Veloce Spider launched in 1971. This vehicle is equipped with a drive unit with a capacity of 1962 cc, which, depending on the preparation obtain power from 128 to 131 hp. A year later came the 1600 Junior 1570 cc engine (110 hp).

The second generation of Spider remained unchanged until 1983. Then it made the car facelift. On the front, integrated with a grill and indicator lights, bumpers appeared black rubber. It also found the back of a small spoiler. Inside the vehicle are mounted in black matte, three-spoke steering wheel.

Model Quadrifoglio Verde (four-leaf clover) appeared in 1986. Mechanically it was similar to earlier vehicles. Minor changes related to the appearance - front and rear spoiler and rear-view mirrors. In addition to this model, you could order a rigid removable hardtop.

Classic Spider was produced until 1994. The following appeared in another car under this name. However, he reminded the new GTV with a roof cut off. Alfa Romeo Spider, originally known as the Duetto, was one of the longest-produced cars in automotive history. It was produced with almost the same body from 1966 until the mid-90s

Ferrari Mondial (1980-1993)

In 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show Ferrari presented its new model Mondial. This vehicle is in the range of the Italian car manufacturer replaced the 208/308 series of GT4. Interestingly the new car was that the organization had four seats for passengers. There would be nothing strange, if not the fact that the engine was located centrally. Although the bodywork of the Mondial was designed in the studio Pininfarina, clearly reminiscent of previous vehicles, which have arisen in Bertone. Like most other contemporary Ferraris was quite angular. The new car had not met with particularly well received. It was very often criticized and considered to be a worse business model with a black, jumping horse in the coat of arms.

Mondial 8, so named because the first version of this model was driven by the coming of the 308 GT4, 8-cylinder, a unit with a capacity of 2929 cc. The engine was equipped with mechanical and electronic injection, Bosch K-Jetronic and reached a maximum power of 214 hp. They put it across, right behind the rear seats. The chassis of the new car also was based on its predecessor - 308 GT4, increased only by 100 mm wheelbase.

Was the first Ferrari Mondial, which was abandoned in determining the type of pre-existing, three-digit mark. The new name referred to the legendary, high performance sports car from the 50s

Three years after the coupé on the market showed a Mondial convertible. Although the style was very similar to the version with a fixed roof, more like a new model introduced by the company from Maranello - Testarossa.

Previously, however, the Mondial was a more powerful engine. The existing drive unit with two valves per cylinder have replaced another, four-valve. In the model designation was to determine Quattrovalvole (four valves). This engine was also used in the Ferrari 308 GTB and developing maximum output of 240 hp.

Like the new 328 GTB, also in Mondialu, in 1985, increased capacity of the drive unit. Now, it amounted to 3.2 l and reached a maximum power of 270 hp. With the reduced weight of car already showed conflicts temperament. Greatly enhanced performance. Also improved slightly outward appearance. Mondial 3.2 received new wheels and painted bumpers. These of course look best in color Rosso Corsa, a red race - the traditional high-performance machines for Ferrari.

Recent changes made in 1989. Mondial has become the representative of the new generation of Ferrari cars. The V8 engine has received a new location. Nadal was mounted centrally, but this time lengthwise. Only the gearbox remained transverse in position. This configuration was commonly used by Scuderia Ferrari in the Formula 1 vehicles in the 80s and has become the standard for mass-produced road cars with V8 engines.

Mondial t was a bit stronger unit with a capacity of 3405 cc and 300 hp. Another novelty introduced in the 1991 season was the automatic transmission of Valeo, to be mounted only in the Cabriolet.

Mondial production ended in 1993. Although this model has been criticized very often, it has sold in two versions (coupe and convertible) in the number of over 6,800 copies. This is one of the most popular Ferrari cars.

Citroen GSA (1979-1986)

Citroën GS was a brilliant solution to the problems the French manufacturer. Resulted from the merger models of the 2CV and DS. The car took a smaller engine that was enlarged to 4 cylinders, and more comfortable, hydro-pneumatic suspension.

Since the early '60s Citroen cars look middle class, which fall outside between already produced - a small 2CV and DS large and luxurious. Model Ami 6 launched in 1961 was only a temporary solution. The French company began work on a 60th C It would be the car longer and wider than the Ami, but using the existing design. As a source of power was to provide an engine capacity of 1100 cc or 1400. It was also planned to use larger units, and hydro-suspension.

Citroën GS was presented in 1970. Already this season, was named "Car of the Year" and, at the Geneva Motor Show a special award for design of the car. This vehicle has been driven by air-cooled, 4-cylinder boxer with a capacity of 1015 cc and power of 55.5 hp. This was also the smallest production car with the suspension of a hydro-pneumatic.

Initially, auto was available only in Berlin. In late 1971 and 1972 also appeared in the station wagon (break). Also, the first engine was too weak. Appeared in the next unit with a capacity of 1129, 1220, and later in 1299 ccm. In the 1977 season passed GS modernization. Changed include rear lights, and the previous four-speed boxes were replaced by 5-degree.

In 1979 he entered the market model of the GSA. The new car looks a bit different than the previous GS. Was longer by 9.5 cm and 3.6 cm Berline as Break. Received other plastic bumpers (metal in the GS), larger tail lights and changed the internal design the car, opened the hatch and now with the rear window.

The interior, especially the dashboard Citroën GSA, attracted attention with its unusual design. The car features - like the GS - in the one-armed steering wheel. GS had a speedometer, which in addition to driving the speed indicated putative braking distance. Unfortunately, later abandoned this approach. In the model GSA everything look more futuristic. On both sides of the steering wheel were called. "Satellites." In the left housed the light switches, indicators, horn and wipers. The buttons on the right handle other functions, such as heated rear window.

Top on the board over the handlebars was a panel on which the silhouette of the car could be seen with links to individual teams. Inflammation of the light indicating a failure of a component. Below are mounted two windows, like a bathroom scale. One of them showed the speed and the second engine speed. Between them and placed a bit lower mileage counter and a clock. These indicators were quite conventional.

Initially, the GS was available only in the specifications and the Comfort Club. However, GSA sold as Spécial (basic), Club (with a larger engine and better equipment), Pallas (luxury) and X3 (sports). Then came the X1. Technically, the car was like X3, but much worse equipped.

GS in the model name is Grand Series (the "great series".) This term has proved to be extremely accurate. It was one of the best-selling Citroën. In total, over 16 years of production built around 2.5 million units of this car, ie, GS and GSA in a variety of body styles and equipment.

On the road the departure I limited series model GSA. The 1982 season showed a tuner (1500 copies) with a black body, beige upholstery, and a radio set from Philips. Two years later, the version presented Cottage (2000 pieces) with a combo, and after a further two seasons, appeared in Chic (1200 cars) in a gray, metallic-colored and aluminum wheels. In 1986, the latest Citroën GSA has been sold in Europe. In Indonesia, the production of the car continued up until 1991.

BMW 2002 ti (1968-1975)

The new 2002 BMW brand and had saved for her to conquer the world. The task is not only implemented, but also set standards for the next 20 years.

In the early 60s BMW started work on a new, very large vehicle. Focused on the 2 - door sedan with a short wheelbase. Hoped that this model will restore the German company, the sporty image that accompanied it in recent years before the Second World War. And that appeared on the market a car with a geometrical form, with large, glass batch, and the characteristic mask with two points headlight horizontal lines connected to the central "kidneys" are known from the BMW cars for many years. The vehicle was so small and maneuverable that was considered to be suitable for riding, and big enough to serve as a family car. He was a dynamic engine, its suspension and effective brakes. Self-supporting steel construction easily fits 4 people and helping them take a lot of baggage. Large glass surfaces provide excellent visibility in all directions.

The first car, a new series of 2 was released in March 1966 the BMW 1600-2. The latter figure distinguishes it from the larger sedan in 1600, which took over the engine. A year later, during the Frankfurt Motor Show presents 1600ti with 105-horse power unit with Solex carburettors.

Soon after, to his private vehicle engine installed capacity of 2 liters of sport BMW boss Alex von Falkenhausen. It did the same shortly after Planning Director Helmut Werner Bonsch. Hence, it was already a step to begin producing 02 of series 2-liter engines. In 1968 there were 2002 models with 100-horsepower engine and 2002ti with 120-horse unit with two Solex carburettors 40PHH. They were given enlarged brakes and suspension stabilizers. For an additional charge you can order a 5-speed gearbox. Soon after appeared on the market model 2002 Automatic, unfortunately, a very unreliable transmission. In 1971 we started producing the most desirable version 2002tii. In the car, instead of carburetors used a mechanical multi-point fuel injection Kugelfischer. In this way we managed to pull liter unit maximum power of 130 hp.

In 1971, the BMW hit showrooms Touring model with a compact body and that opens up a large tailgate. It was available in several versions of the motor. However, this offer was too early. Customers still had no need of such cars.

2002 BMW won enormous popularity in the United States. Model 1600-2 sell pretty well there until the time when, in 1968 introduced new, tougher standards on emissions. These conditions to successfully meet future versions, namely 2002 and 2002ti, which became a hit in the U.S. and the U.S. magazine "Car and Drive" advertised it as the best export product since the days of Germany's Marlene Dietrich.

In 1974 he appeared in a short series of the most powerful model 2002 Turbo. The first vehicle BMW turbo was previously in response to the needs of sport section. In 1968, Dieter Quester won the European championship in touring car racing at the wheel of the model 2002. A year later, it was the best, but this time the BMW 2002 Turbo. Unfortunately, the turbo ended their lives during the first oil crisis.

Production models in 2002 ended in 1975. Its successor became a vehicle marked with E21, which is the 3-Series.

BMW 503 (1956-1960)

In the early 50s production in a range of BMW motorcycles were located, cheap, two-seater Isetta, which is a kind of motor-cab, and a huge limo 502nd Soon these vehicles sporty model joined the 503rd Unfortunately, on this car a few could afford. In 1929 a coupé costing 950 DM (German marks), and as a convertible 32 950 DM. For that amount you could then buy a house.

BMW 503 was then the top techniques. The car was driven by an 8-cylinder V-engine with central timing and valve tappets. Gave a capacity of 3.2 liter 140 hp. This all-aluminum body mounted on an aluminum exterior. Gearbox specially lengthened gear to ride on the highway was more comfortable. The maximum speed of 190 km / h and "hundred" in 13 seconds like the 50s quite good results.

A novelty is automatically lifted after pressing the windows and a tilt in a convertible. Initially, the hydraulic system used here. However, the rubber hoses with wire braid burst from the widespread use and fluid poured on the cover door. In later copies of the solution was replaced by a faulty electrical system.

BMW 503 was built in two series. In the first 1956 years between May and December 1957 was 219 cars. The remaining 193 cars were constructed before June 1960. The main differences concerned the gear lever, lifting techniques and placing glass ashtrays and decorative trim. In the first series of cars shift lever was placed on the steering column, it was moved to the second floor. Initially, to raise and lower windows used a hydraulic system, then used the electrical system. Ashtray, which was first placed under the dash, transferred to the top right next to the speaker, and curved moldings straightened. In 1958, the front brakes replaced with more powerful brakes.

Creator BMW 503 Albrecht Graf von Goertz was born on 12 January 1914. With his two siblings grew up in the estate of their parents in Brunkensen in Lower Saxony. Already at the age of 5 years found that cars will be his passion in life. After graduation, the young Earl in 1933 began practice at Deutsche Bank in Hamburg. He later moved to London bank Helbert & Co Wagga. Albrecht acknowledged, however, that his career prospects in Europe are not very promising and in 1935 he passed the request for a visa at the American embassy in Grosvenor Square. In the autumn of next year he left the Old Continent, and went on a trip to New York. There did not stay long and soon the place he moved to sunny California, to Los Angeles. To earn a living, he worked at a car wash in the factory and aircraft engines. In 1938 he rented a garage on Rodeo Drive, where he began to modify Ford Model A and B. The Mercury chassis built his first car - 2-door coupe, which he called Paragon. Goertz, this vehicle is unveiled during the world exhibition in San Francisco in 1939. Unfortunately, the Earl had his passion for automobiles postponed, waiting for him for five-year military service. After returning to Los Angeles pulled out of the garage and went to Paragon him on a trip to New York. There, in the parking lot before the famous Waldorf-Astoria hotel, changed his life. "Right next to my car parked the other, just strange looking. The owner looked at me as interesting, as I am to him. It was a famous designer Raymond Loewy" - so this event years later he recalled Goertz. Loewy zaprosił Earl to his office and soon after, Albrecht began working in the design office Studebaker, Indiana.

In 1953 he was recognized designer. Then he met the main importer of BMW in America by Max Hoffmann. Hoffmann, who knew the Munich plans to build sports car company, told the leadership of BMW Goertz. In less than 18 months the count presented two projects - the beautiful sports coupe and the 507 large, elegant coupé and cabriolet 503rd

After his departure from BMW Albrecht von Goertz worked for Porsche (in the team preparing the model 911), Nissan (Silvia 1600 Sports Coupe and the Datsun 240Z) and Toyota (2000GT). Recently he helped the team projektującemu Nissan 350Z. Count Albrecht died on 27 October 2006. BMW sports stars from stage and film

Model 503 has not improved and so financially weak that is on the verge of bankruptcy BMW. It did not help the sport 507th This vehicle is manufactured in the period 1956-1959 cost 26 500 DM. One such car in white acquired during military service in Germany, Elvis Presley. He paid $ 3,500 for it. After returning to the U.S. gave them Ursula Andress, famous for playing Honey Ryder in Dr. Well, first of the films about James Bond. In 1997, this car sold at auction for 350 thousand. dollars. Style 507 had an effect on the subsequent appearance of Z8.

Albrecht von Goertz Projects are not saved by BMW. The Munich company has revived thanks to the intervention of billionaire Herbert Quandt and sales of small and cheap cars.

Alfa Romeo Alfasud (1972-1983)

In the late sixties of the twentieth century the Italian government has taken extensive measures to redress the disparities between rich, industrialized North and the poor south. One of the state-owned companies, which began construction of its plants in the south, was the Alfa Romeo in Milan. The new factory was established in the town of Pomigliano d'Arco near Naples. The first car that was manufactured, was the Alfa of the south, that is, the Alfasud.

This vehicle was first presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1971, but sales came in the summer of next season. Initially presented two versions of the new model 2 - and 4-door. Alfasud was the chief engineer of Austrian engineer Rudolf Hruschka, but about the body line took care of famous Italian stylist Giorgio Giugiaro.

Alfasud was the first Alfa Romeo model with front-wheel drive. As the source drive the 4-cylinder engine with push-pull arrangement of cylinders, the so-called boxer. The new, compact cars assembled unit with a capacity of 1186, 1351 and 1490 ccm.

The strongest in the whole grid, 105-horse unit was put into a sports car Alfasud 1.5 ti Quadrifoglio Verde (green four-leaf clover). It was a symbol of all high performance vehicles from Alfa Romeo, Targa Florio race in 1923 won by Ugo Sivocciego RL model.

Although the Alfasud was conceived mainly as a compact family car, like any Alfa Romeo has kept the nature of sports. Auto with the smallest engine rozpędzało to 100 km / h in 13.6 s. For those times it was a very good result. Unfortunately, the drive unit lacked flexibility. Much better fought a sports version of Sprint.

In the second half of the 70s vehicles with 130 hp made by Milan's sports department Autodelta participated in numerous World Cup competitions (Alfasud Trofeo), played in Italy, France, Austria and Germany. One of the drivers who gained their first successes there, is well known to us from later competing in Formula 1, Austrian Gerhard Berger.

Overall in the years 1972-1983 produced 1 028 268 Alfasud all models. They were manufactured in Italy, not only in native plants in Pomigliano d'Arco. In the early eighties, it is also assembled in Malaysia and South Africa. In the first case it was the same model as the one for the Italian market. In southern Africa, produced a special version of Grand Theft Auto Export - in the 5-door body was inserted 1.5-liter engine with 105 hp coming from a sports Quadrifoglio Verde.
